I loved that documentary also. Such a funny and warm person, clearly loved by all who crossed her path. I'd forgotten how amazing (and how brave- think of the Bernard Manning interview) Mrs Merton was, also.

Great interview! And I think Matthew's choice of five dinner/chippy tea (or in this case pub crawl) guests is the best we've seen on the site so far. Featuring -In Bob Mortimer and Caroline Aherne (RIP)- two of the funniest people to have graced the planet. They both know/knew their way around a pub as well, that's for sure!

Loved everything Caroline Aherne was in. The documentary on her recently on the BBC was lovely to watch, loads of nice tributes from her Royle Family co-stars.

Matthew’s book is biblical! The Magnet is a magnet !

Stockport has an eclectic super special mix of pubs, working my way through them and the book, but keeping The Runaway Brewery venue as my favourite . Did you know that ‘Cheers, Thank You’ in the County Courtyard is the same A ‘Stock Pale’ in Runaway? Worth passing a few pubs for🥳

There’s 18 Stockport pubs in the book isn’t there. I might visit all 18 for a bit of an article for The Scarf!
