“Championship stability is arguably more than satisfactory but then you look at Brighton, Brentford, Luton and think why the fuck not?”
Tim Edwards from Fearless in Devotion discusses the future of Wrexham, plus a little bit of the past and the present as well
Wednesday 20 September 2023
NEXT HOME GAME: Wrexham – Saturday 23 September, 3pm
NEXT AWAY GAME: Accrington – Saturday 30 September, 3pm
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, and any Wrexham supporters joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Wednesday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
The fans have spoken. The County v Wrexham rivalry is about as fierce as a local derby between a couple of part-time Stockport clubs in the North West Counties League. I’d just written a fantastic article containing lots of sheep bestiality and aeroplane banners and Dave Challinor singing “Fuck you Wrexham” as well…
With that article consigned to the bin, we’ve extended the hand of friendship to Wrexham instead, with Tim Edwards from Fearless in Devotion joining us for a pleasant chat ahead of Saturday’s friendly kickabout.
Finally, a big thank you to Mark at Bridge Computer Services for sponsoring today’s edition.
Enjoy today’s issue.

PS) Fuck you Wrexham, we’ve gone and won the league.
Wrexham have obviously been rejuvenated by the injection of fame and money. Any regrets?
No. The moment you start really regretting the good fortune we've had means you'll accept mediocrity forever with a 'closed shop' attitude. I'm a firm believer that most clubs will have their moment in the sun. It just so happens our moment is being led by two very likeable guys and a pretty enjoyable documentary.
Do Wrexham fans actually shag sheep?
Impossible for me to know the carnal desires of 10,000 fans. But if we do… figures show cooked lamb consumption to be highest in England!
Is League Two harder than you imagined?
Harder to adapt but still too early to say if it's a giant leap from the National League. It's already much more enjoyable because of the structure and the better away days.
Are the tourists turning up at games going down well with the long-standing fans?
Yes. The majority are pleasant and humble. Some come just to savour a matchday and hope a ticket becomes available if they didn't succeed in the international ticket ballot we have for overseas fans. Anyone who wants to spend hard earned money to come over here and also see North Wales is welcome.
What do you think will happen when the cameras are switched off and attention goes elsewhere?
Good luck finding a fresher angle than Welcome To Wrexham! It'll just go back to how it was before except some of the fans on the documentary will continue to be more well known and have to be ambassadors for the club and fanbase. I think there will even be some relief too.
“Fuck the Tories.” Yes or no?
My own opinion is absolutely. A dreadful coven of chaos and corruption. Paul Mullin was right.
Ticket allocations. How can you complain given your shite allocation to away fans?
I'm not complaining. And we've only got three stands but still give over 1,000 to away fans. Don't be greedy. Can't magic a stand out of thin air!
How far can Rob and Ryan actually take Wrexham? Premier League one day?
No idea. Championship stability is arguably more than satisfactory but then you look at Brighton, Brentford, Luton and think why the fuck not?
Did you fear the worst initially when Hollywood came calling, given the number of dodgy owners around these days?
Not when we knew who it was. The reputational damage to them, Ryan specifically, could be disastrous if they got it wrong. Luckily he has the midas touch and both co-owners have gone about it all in a very reassuring manner.
Do Wrexham fans “run from the Chester”?
I've yet to see a C**ster fan to actually stride away from. You can waltz through their Roman city in a Wrexham top and get wolf whistled instead of walloped these days. Plus, you never know what you might catch if you got too close to them.
What’s the fan culture like at Wrexham currently? Fanzines, podcasts, supporters groups etc.
Busy. Lots of content creators doing mostly good things and a group of fans committed to driving the atmosphere with the drum, tifos etc.
What’s your prediction for Saturday’s game?
3-1 to us and a sending off for Akil Wright.
Best and worst moments from past games against County?
Any time we played against Adam Le Fondre, the worst being that time he scored four in a 5-2 win. And also our last visit to Edgeley Park when we choked and didn't do ourselves justice.
As for the best, it has to be the last two times we played you. Big games demand big players with big goals and those two wins were just mesmerising and ones for the ages.
What’s your thoughts on the County v Wrexham rivalry? Who’s going to come out on top this Saturday? And have you ever eaten lamb that’s been previously interfered with by a Welshman? Leave your comments below.
Give Mark a call with any computer problems
I made a joke above about County v Wrexham being a friendly kickabout, but I’m sure if Paul Mullin scores a 90th minute winner at the Cheadle End on Saturday, County fans might take their aggression out on their computers when they get home.
If that does happen and your computer is knackered, give Mark a call at Bridge Computer Services. Based in Romiley, the business provides computer workshop and callout services to residential and business customers across Stockport. Their callout and workshop engineers are trained to fix computers, laptops and servers on site (where possible) as well as setting up new computers and wireless networks, plus maintaining existing networks and removing viruses.

Jordan Keane celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday. Here’s a photo of him celebrating something else in 2022, clinching the National League title ahead of… ahead of… nope, can’t remember their name. (Wink wink.)

Even with the back to back away wins I'd settle for a home draw against Wrexham as long as we come from behind to get it, otherwise it would feel like a loss. Nothing worse that seeing 3 points turn into 1 point in the last 5 minute (apart from actually loosing)
