NEXT HOME GAME: Crawley – Saturday 2 September, 3pm
NEXT AWAY GAME: Mansfield – Saturday 26 August, 3pm
Two defeats. Then a draw. Then a win. Looks like progress, smells like progress, although still room for improvement. I think that’s the general consensus after Saturday.
We don’t have a Barrow fan to join us today I’m afraid. I think Salford are still in pole position as the biggest Facebook weirdos I’ve come across when looking to speak to rival fans, but Barrow are definitely in the top five after the weekend. Their leader is a bloke called Ken, who replied to my request with three photos of Courtney Duffus’ bloody nose, and a further four frame-by-frame photos of the incident. I bet Ken takes Monopoly to New Year’s Eve parties.
Who needs a Barrow fan anyway? We’ve got Bob Carey joining us, which is more than enough excitement for a Wednesday.
I’d like to say a big thank you to Paul and all the team at Colourtone for sponsoring today’s edition. See below for further details on what they have to offer.
Enjoy today’s issue.

Saturday’s match in one word:
Bob – Relief.
Pre-match thoughts:
Bob – As it was my first game of the season, as an Essex exile, I assumed a 5-0 win in my honour. I am always wildly optimistic. That had dissipated by half-time.
My son Will came up for the match. He was mascot against Barnsley about 20 years ago by the way. His girlfriend Lucy was excited too as I told her we would win 5-0. I was about to let them down. They enjoyed The Armoury though so I got something right.
My optimism was dented by my fellow Stockport Sippers telling me I’d had a weave simply because I had grown my hair. Just jealousy due to their varying stages of baldyheads.
Post-match thoughts:
Bob – Huge relief to get three points. Officials really poor. We had a definite penalty ignored. Lots of basic decisions were wrong. To be fair, whilst unintentional, Knoyle should have been red carded. Let's hope it's the start of some wins, although we still need a goalscorer!
Verdict on County:
Bob – Pretty pants in the first 45. What's the point in dominating possession if we can't create chances? Second half much better. Louie Barry showed some great skills and scored a cracker. Paddy came close a couple of times. Barrow never worried me.
Verdict on Barrow:
Bob – I expected better. Sure their fans did too. We should have beaten them far more easily than we did, and they were pretty average. We made them look half decent in the first half.
Top Hatter:
Bob – I know everyone says Croasdale but it was Ben for me. Calm and focused throughout. Never looked like conceding. Exudes confidence. County's backbone.
Top Bluebird:
Bob – Sorry I don't know their names. The geezer with the dreads looked class.
Atmosphere:
Bob – Really good. I was middle of LT5 and very vocal down there. I apologise for my potty mouth but the ref and assistants need new glasses. Disappointed not to see a single Bovril drinker near me. Barrow looked they brought a few. A proper club with proper fans.
Hopes for the rest of the season:
Bob – We will be in the promotion mix. DC has so many injuries to work round though. Tanto and Ollie need some motivational therapy to get back to their best. Can't wait for the return of WonderWootton. A win is a win and we will be up there by October. Of greater concern was The Armoury running out of Dizzy post match. Unheard of and shocking.
Give your car a lick of paint
Granted, Stockport used to be a little rough around the edges. But the town’s getting a good old lick of paint these days, with fancy new offices, apartments, bars and restaurants springing up. You can’t be driving up and down the A6 in a tatty car with chipped paintwork, so give your car a nice lick of paint too. Colourtone is your go-to company for that. They’ve been servicing the automotive and industrial markets in Cheshire and Greater Manchester for decades, and carry an extensive range of car paint and industrial paints.

We didn’t manage to beat United last night, but we always beat the blue half of Manchester…
