County to face Bradford in the play-offs!
(If all of the remaining games in League Two this season mirror the first meetings)
Tuesday 11 April 2023
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, and anyone else joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Tuesday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
After our convincing victory over Newport yesterday, County are in the top three for the first time this season. I’m still convinced we’ll go up automatically, but for today’s article, I’ve had a play around on The Fishy and predicted all of the remaining results based on what happened earlier in the season. That game in hand Stevenage currently have comes into play, as we end up finishing 4th. Click on the link and have a go yourself with your own permutations!
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Paul and all the team at Colourtone for sponsoring today’s edition. See below for further details on what they have to offer.
Des Junior
After missing out on automatic promotion by two points, County will face Bradford City in the League Two play-off semi-finals in May.
That’s according to the final league table, if all of the remaining fixtures have the same outcome as earlier in the campaign. (The goal difference has been simulated by the computer as I couldn’t be arsed inputting all those, but the points column is spot on.)
Obviously this won’t happen so this is a rather pointless exercise, but it’s something to do on a Tuesday afternoon I suppose.
With a draw at Gillingham and then back-to-back wins over Carlisle and Rochdale, Dave Challinor’s men would be very much in contention for a place in the top three. But a defeat at champions Leyton Orient on the penultimate weekend of the season would end our hopes. Northampton would seal promotion on the same day with victory at home to Bradford, while Stevenage would also clinch their place in League One next season with a draw at home to Grimsby.
The Hatters would already be guaranteed a home game in the second leg of the play-offs, so there wouldn’t be much to play for on the final day. But all eyes would still be on Edgeley Park, as Hartlepool’s Football League future would be hanging in the balance. They’d start the day three points ahead of Crawley, who would claw themselves level by winning at Swindon. With either Hartlepool or Crawley joining Rochdale in the National League next season, agonisingly on goal difference, it could be a rather fun afternoon watching a Railway End full of nervous Monkey Hangers, constantly checking their phones for updates from the game at the County Ground.
If we’re continuing this pointless formula into the play-offs, County would be victorious in the first leg at Bradford, before a nerve-racking draw at Edgeley Park in the second leg would take us to Wembley. Carlisle would be our opponents in the final.
Give your car a lick of paint
Granted, Stockport used to be a little rough around the edges. But the town’s getting a good old lick of paint these days, with fancy new offices, apartments, bars and restaurants springing up. You can’t be driving up and down the A6 in a tatty car with chipped paintwork, so give your car a nice lick of paint too. Colourtone is your go-to company for that. They’ve been servicing the automotive and industrial markets in Cheshire and Greater Manchester for decades, and carry an extensive range of car paint and industrial paints.
