NEXT HOME GAME: Crawley – Saturday 2 September, 3pm
NEXT AWAY GAME: Wimbledon – Saturday 9 September, 3pm
“Someone needs to burn this place to the ground. I told myself I would never come back.”
One of my favourite lines from The Hangover Part III. Delivered by Ed Helms (who plays Stu) as the gang roll into Las Vegas on the hunt for Leslie Chow. I watched the film again this week and I imagined County fans saying that particular line in exactly the same tone as they pulled away from Field Mill on Saturday, a ground we now haven’t won at in the league for 40 years. Sam Binch from Mansfield Musings gives us the Stags’ view, with Edward Keane drawing the short straw to relieve the away end experience.
Finally, a huge thank you to Kingsway Carpets for sponsoring today’s edition. They’ve currently got clearance stock available in store, so if you need a new carpet at the moment, it’s definitely worth having a look.
Enjoy today’s issue.

Saturday’s match in one word:
Sam – Important.
Edward – Seesaw.
Pre-match thoughts:
Sam – That we were in good form, playing well, but not getting the rub of the green. Now we were up against a better side.
Edward – Hopeful of a narrow win, would've settled for a draw just about.
Post-match thoughts:
Sam – It was a big win for us and well deserved I thought. We didn’t get going in the first half but were still competitive. We created as many goal attempts as County but you had the better ones. In the second half, from the hour mark we battered you and were well worthy of two goals.
Edward – Disappointed we didn't push on when ahead and try and extend the lead. Thought we should have done better with our changes, formation, and style of play after the break.
Verdict on Mansfield:
Sam – Average first half, very good second. Once we figured you out, and got back to our passing game, it looked a matter of time until we scored.
Edward – Experienced. They reacted well and changed things successfully when behind.
Verdict on County:
Sam – Not as impressive as I thought. Thought Challinor was harsh on your defenders, who made five or six crucial blocks in the second half. He set them up to try and soak up pressure and therefore they were always going to be up against it by letting us have the majority of the ball.
Edward - Frustrating. We had it there to win and didn't put our foot down when on Mansfield's throat.
Top Stag:
Sam – George Maris. He was everywhere; great passing, got on the end of things in the box, ran himself into the ground.
Edward – The guy who scored two for them probably. I forget his name.
Top Hatter:
Sam – Barry was the big threat, he caused problems all afternoon but I think we dealt with him quite well as the game went on.
Edward – Barry. Had the spark. Should've had us 3-1 up.
Atmosphere:
Sam – Very quiet in the first half, the players could have done with a boost in that period and it wasn’t forthcoming. Second half was rocking once we started on the front foot
Edward – Pretty decent, standing and singing, including from me. Bizarre rendition of Arthur Brownlow when we were 2-1 up?!
Hopes for the rest of the season:
Sam – We’re playing well and I think we’ve been the better side in every game so far. However we’ve only played one side who are currently in the top half so it’s early days. Play-offs are looking achievable at the least.
Edward – My hopes remain unchanged – still top three, maybe a go at the title. Whether I think that is likely may have changed a bit.
