County v Tranmere
Dave Challinor’s men aim to create history against a team with an away record of L L L L L L L – what could possibly go wrong?
Saturday 28 October 2023
NEXT HOME GAME: Tranmere – Today, 3pm
NEXT AWAY GAME: Swindon – Saturday 11 November, 3pm
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, and any non-crossbar-breaking Tranmere supporters joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Saturday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
It’s a Saturday that could see history made at Edgeley Park, with Stockport County winning an eleventh consecutive game for the first time. Chesterfield prevented us from doing it the first time around, before Mullin & Co did the same at the Racecourse. Will a side that’s lost all seven of their away games in League Two this season throw a spanner in the works this afternoon, or will it be third time lucky?
One of my mates has gone for a 7-0 County win this morning. Ian Brown has been a little more conservative with a 3-0. He’s the only one on duty for us this weekend, but don’t worry, we’ll be back to full strength for Worksop in the FA Cup next Saturday. For those readers who enjoy the longer pieces we publish on The Scarf My Father Wore, I’ll have part two of ‘The Streets of Stockport’ with you tomorrow, as I take you down the other side of the A6.
Today’s edition is sponsored by Beespoke Cleaning. They supply all aspects of cleans, from regular to one-off and general to end-of-tenancy. Give Vicky a call on 07445 256191 or email info@beespokecleaning.com if you’ve got a house or office that needs a good clean.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Total distance so far: 38.66 miles
Total steps so far: 67,558
Total raised so far: £693

Des Junior
Des Junior loves writing about County. But he can never be arsed doing match previews. They’re a bit dull, aren’t they? Paddy Madden’s out for two games with an ingrown toenail…blah blah blah…tomorrow’s referee has handed out more cards than Moonpig…blah blah blah…County haven’t won at Birmingham since 1672.
Fortunately, he has a number of fellow County content creators to call upon. Here’s their thoughts, general chit-chat and score predictions, ahead of Tranmere’s visit to SK3 this afternoon.

Would you take third place this season if you were offered it today?
Of course I would, but that’s only one of several ‘offers’ on the table at the end of this season, and which one (if any) we take advantage of is entirely down to us and how we play from here on out, so ‘socks’ to your exceedingly hypothetical question Des!
Our form currently is excellent and if we were to be caught out at all, Tuesday at Crewe was where it was most likely to occur, but even faced with the adversity of losing Louie after 25 minutes we won with some to spare and kept a clean sheet against the division’s heaviest goalscorers.
It is that last fact that gives me the greatest cause for optimism – we have stumbled onto our best defensive unit largely via chance and a run of injuries and they are playing a vital part in our progress.
The injury to Louie is a major concern and another for me is that we do not overload the excellent Kyle Wootton, Louie`s ‘off the peg’ replacement in our drive to keep on winning.
So, we keep trying to win every game. Our eventual finishing position will emerge at the end of it and until it does, we settle for no less!
There could be a ‘Tuesday-Saturday’ negative reaction from County in today’s game but we definitely have enough on board to win this 3-0 if we shape ourselves.
Beespoke Cleaning can provide a weekly, fortnightly or monthly service for you
Look how spotless this place is. I’m not saying your place isn’t, but it would be nice to get a bit of help with the cleaning, wouldn’t it? Especially for County fans, as they spend a lot of time away from home. There’s long trips to Swindon and Newport coming up in November. Wouldn’t it be nice to get back to Stockport from your travels and find your home in immaculate condition.
Beespoke Cleaning can do exactly that for you, whether you’d like their services once a week, once a fortnight or even once a month. The business has been operating since 2010, with a long list of satisfied regular customers, as cleaning projects are completed in a timely manner and with the highest level of quality.
