NEXT HOME GAME: Grimsby – Saturday 21 October, 3pm
NEXT AWAY GAME: Harrogate – Saturday 14 October, 3pm
I usually like to speak to a home fan and an away fan for the match reports we do on The Scarf My Father Wore, but the Salford lot still aren’t speaking to me after I had the audacity of asking if any of them fancied a quick chat ahead of the play-off semi-final back in May.
It means we’re resting 50% of our usual post-match contributors today. That’s in keeping with the Pizza Cup anyway, isn’t it? Challinor made 10 changes last night and it didn’t do him or County any harm, so hopefully I won’t receive any backlash from subscribers. We’ve still got John (@ClassicCounty on Twitter) joining us for a look back at last night’s game, with County now in a position where we could be through before a ball is kicked against Bolton in the final group game.
Today’s edition is sponsored by UK Sports Coaching. A big thank you to Matt. With the October half-term just around the corner, if you’re looking for things to do to keep your little ones entertained (reception to year eight), Matt’s company are running camps throughout the week at Hazel Grove Sports Centre. There’s four different camps to choose from: ultimate football experience, goalkeeper wars, multi-sport, and dance. If you’d like more information, give Matt a call on 07891 205763 or email matt@uksportscoaching.co.uk.
Finally, I’m starting my charity walk in the next few days, walking every street in Stockport to raise money for men’s mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Further information on the walk can be found by clicking here.

Yesterday’s match in one word:
John – Comfortable.
Pre-match thoughts:
John – I knew the team would be much changed from Saturday but I was still hoping we’d get a win. Wouldn’t have been overly arsed if we’d lost but nice to still be in with a chance of progressing.
Post-match thoughts:
John – Really pleased to see so many academy players get a run out and great to see Wootton and Camps back too. Madden’s still got it (despite what some say) and took his goals really well.
Verdict on Salford:
John – They weren’t great, but like I said, much changed and missing some important players.
Verdict on County:
John – Decent. Can’t get too carried away as both teams made changes but a win is a win.
Top Ammie:
John – Dackers looks like he’s got potential and scored a well worked goal (although our keeper should have done better).
Top Hatter:
John – Madden was a class above, but I like the look of Partington and McMahon too.
Atmosphere:
John – Pretty relaxed as it’s a trophy game. No mither and a quick escape by car on the way home.
Hopes for the rest of the season:
John – Not that bothered about the trophy and I’m sure DC will rotate the squad for the Bolton game if we’re already through. My hopes for the season are automatic promotion. I’d love to win the league but I’d happily settle for third place!
The British Library receives a copy of every single book published in the UK. In the same fashion, Des Junior believes a detailed record of every County game should be preserved for the history books. So here’s the full story of our 3-1 victory at Salford City on Tuesday 10 October 2023, as told from his County-related WhatsApp groups…
6.43pm: I’m at The Valley tonight, for no other reason than I’ve never been and I got free tickets. They’re playing Villa kids.
7.32pm: Oh dear. Salford 1-0 up already.
7.38pm: Louie Barry‘s just been greeted like the Messiah for walking across the front of the terrace.
7.40pm: Villa kids are fucking dire.
7.50pm: 1-1. Madden penalty.
8.41pm: 2-1! Madden again.
8.56pm: Madden gets his hat-trick. 3-1.
8.57pm: I know it’s a tinpot trophy but I love to see a Paddy hat-trick and beating this lot.

Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport
An absolutely huge congratulations to one of our subscribers Lauren Hinks, on the birth of these two cuties, Evan and Myles. As it turns out, Lauren is also the sister of your editor, which means, holy shit, I’M AN UNCLE!!!
I can vividly remember my dad picking me up from primary school to go up to the hospital on the day Lauren was born in 1994. To now see her bring these two bundles of joy into the world is just a wonderful feeling.
They’ll be causing havoc on County away days in no time…
