Unlike Stockport in their non league days Bury aren’t exactly making friends in the ninth tier with many threatening to turn up tomorrow without tickets we all know how that can end up .After watching United for many years until total lack of interest forced me away from football in 2005 eventually I started watching football in the national league at Edgeley Park I have never seen fans as happy and proud of their side as at the recent Accrington match I am delighted for all of you I will almost certainly never become a supporter as I don’t think it is possible to change clubs but with trips this season to Grimsby and Gillingham on a Tuesday behind me I look forward to league one in august I may even buy a scarf (it gets cold in the winter) .

Thanks for the reminders! My first game was also 1960: Trevor Porteous, Harold Lea, Gene Wilson, Mike Davock, George Whitelaw my heroes. They were soon replaced by Len White, Len Allchurch, Ken Mulhearn, Woods and Stuart, Fryatt and Atkins. By this time, I was amongst the noisy herberts in the old Cheadle End. ‘If I had the wings of a falcon …..’

I was also a Cheadle Ender in the glory days of 1966-67. Woods and Stuart were the rock on which the ream was built with Bert Lister slotting in the goals. Happy Days!

In response to John Snellgrove, his memories of EP in those days is nostalgia on steroids, but he is wrong about Len White who didn't join County until 1964. My first game was when my Dad took me to EP in Dec 62 to see County beat Exeter 4-3; I remember George Whitelaw and Charlie McDonnell in attack and Derek Ward (I think) on the wing.

It's great to read this John. I remember attending many matches with you in the sixties although I think it was 1963 for my first full game. I say "first full game" because, before that, I recall cycling from Cheadle Hulme to Edgeley, sneaking in to the railway sheds, and then timing it to see the last 20 minutes or so of a game for free when they opened the gates for people to leave. Maybe my memory is playing tricks but I seem to recall you accompanying me round the railway sheds. Following my first of "properly" watching County in 63-64, we finished bottom of division 4 the following season but there was also that wonderful FA cup match at Anfield - still one of my highlights in away games attended. Then, in '66, I was at Wembley to see England win the World Cup, and in'67 we were Go-Go-Going up with Vic Bernard. It seemed then that watching football was just one high after another. I was soon to discover that this was not the case! I can also remember, John, endless games of subbuteo which you always won. I think we lost contact when you changed schools. I still go to County - sitting in the disabled bay in the Main Stand - so please come and say hello if you are around that part of the ground. that part.
