Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Exeter supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, here’s your Sunday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
Have you warmed up yet? Storm Darragh didn’t cause as much chaos in Stockport as it did to Llandudno Pier or the scoreboard at Notts County, but that was still a bloody windy one in SK3 yesterday. I have to say I did feel quite sorry for the Exeter fans having to make the long trek back to Devon in that weather last night – goalless and pointless – while I enjoyed the warmth of The Armoury, then The Prince Albert, and then Chilli Massalla for the Stockport Sippers Society Christmas Curry.
I had my big coat and my gloves on yesterday, but I still managed to stick 21 photos on my phone. There’s also a festive chat with Terry Park today – the last County player to score at Old Trafford, back in 1978.
Today’s edition is sponsored by CE Building Services. A big thank you to Chris.
Thanks also to Pro-Tech Print who sponsor our Exeter City content on the website.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Total distance so far: 176.31 miles
Total steps so far: 284,130
Total raised so far: £2,027
Total completed streets so far: 399 (Click here for the full list, which includes reports and photos from every day of the walk.)
Further information on the walk can be found by clicking here.

Thinking of having an extension in 2025?
Adding an extension to your home not only provides you with additional living space but can add considerable value to your property.
Whether it’s an extra bedroom, larger kitchen, utility room, or sun lounge, CE Building Services will work together with you to guide you through the process, and help you assess the best options to suit your budget and requirements.
They will assist you with the design, and decision making process, ensuring you get the best possible living space you require to suit you and your family’s needs.
An extension is often a cheaper option than moving house. Adding an extension can increase the value of your home whether it’s a single storey extension, or a double storey wrap around.

The County Advent Calendar: Day 8 – Terry Park
If you ask older supporters to name their best ever County team, you’ll hear the name Terry Park from a fair few of them. A real fans’ favourite at Edgeley Park, Terry made 181 appearances for the Hatters, scoring 24 goals. He’s the last County player to score at Old Trafford, putting Mike Summerbee’s men 2-1 up in the second round of the League Cup with just 12 minutes to go on Wednesday 30 August 1978. Then referee Peter Willis conspired to ensure United made it safely through to the next round. That stuff’s been going on for years, kids.
First of all, Mr Park, I’ve got a special hotline to Father Christmas. He’s asked me if you’ve been naughty or nice this year?
Ha ha, I’m always nice!
What was the best thing about being a footballer at Christmas?
Boxing Day games. Always a great time to be playing.
What does a typical Christmas Day look like in your house?
It’s always been mad. I had five daughters, then I had a son. My girls are in their 30s now but the house is still mad at Christmas.
What’s your favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone.
What would be the best Christmas present underneath the tree for you this year?
Everton to start playing a bit of football instead of just kicking it. That would be a nice present!
County have got Huddersfield away, Rotherham away and Birmingham at home over the festive period. How many points are we getting?
Seven points (draw against Huddersfield).
Where do you get your Christmas tree from?
The loft! That’s all I know about the tree.
Are you organised when it comes to Christmas shopping or are you a Christmas Eve petrol station sort of guy?
I’m not organised for anything at all. I’m nearly 68 and I don't think that's gonna change now.

#67 – Vit Jaros, Liverpool
Arriving on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Vit Jaros kept Ben Hinchliffe out of the team at the start of our first season back in the Football League. The Czech goalkeeper made 13 appearances for County, before suffering an injury during our 2-0 win at Salford in October. He made his full debut for Liverpool a few weeks ago in the Reds’ 3-2 victory at Brighton in the League Cup.
