NEXT AWAY GAME: Exeter City – Saturday 5 April, 3pm
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Wrexham supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Sunday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
Apologies to the lady from New York who’s made it into the title of today’s edition, but after seeing County come away from the Racecourse empty-handed for a fourth consecutive visit, I’m still feeling a tad cheesed off this afternoon. It was another lively trip to North Wales yesterday, eh? We’ll try to make sense of it all tomorrow, but for now here’s 24 photos from a miserable trip over the border once again.
Today’s edition is sponsored by SDS Aerials. A big thank you to Dylan.
Thanks also to Rough Hands Tap who sponsor our Wrexham content on the website.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.

I think we all need to calm down and relax a little bit after yesterday, so here’s a nice cute wholesome photo of my nephews playing on the slide, just before their uncle took them home for a game of pin the tail on the James McClean.

Random snippets from old County programmes
#27 - County v Bury, 3 April 1999
In the 90s, County’s programme included a ‘You Are The Ref’ feature. Perhaps we should bring it back after yesterday…
You are refereeing a recent mundane clash between Port Vale and Stockport County in the Nationwide First Division. After about an hour of football played at walking pace and with County leading 1-0, a Port Vale player launches himself at the Stockport County centre-half with his elbow raised which has the effect of pole-axeing the County defender, and he subsequently has to leave the field. The Port Vale player, who suspects that you may be about to discipline him, has fallen on the floor pretending to be injured. Do you:
A) Follow the FIFA directive and show the Port Vale player a red card for deliberate use of the elbow.
B) Offer the Port Vale player the benefit of the doubt and confine yourself to showing him a yellow card.
C) Be utterly conned by the Port Vale player’s antics and allow him to walk away from the incident scot-free. It doesn’t matter that he caused the enforced withdrawal of County’s best player and ultimately let Vale back into the game, the fact that he’s rolling around on the floor like a tart is enough to blinker you from the situation.
Answer: C.
