Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Accrington supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Tuesday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
It’s County’s first game in the group stage of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy this evening. Just like Dave Challinor, we’re also resting some of our regulars today, but Jonathan Baker and Ian Brown have been called up for selection, to give you something to read on your journey over to Lancashire.
Today’s edition is sponsored by Rub A Dubz Detailing and Beespoke Cleaning. A big thank you to Grant and Vicky.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Total distance so far: 176.31 miles
Total steps so far: 284,130
Total raised so far: £1,981
Total completed streets so far: 399 (Click here for the full list, which includes reports and photos from every day of the walk.)
Further information on the walk can be found by clicking here.
Des Junior
Des Junior loves writing about County. But he can never be arsed doing match previews. They’re a bit dull, aren’t they? Will Collar’s out for a month with diarrhoea… blah blah blah…tomorrow’s referee has handed out more cards than Moonpig…blah blah blah…County haven’t won at Birmingham for a thousand years.
Fortunately, he has a number of fellow County content creators to call upon. Here’s their thoughts, general chit-chat and score predictions, as County’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign gets underway.
Jonathan Baker, The County Away Day Show
Accrington 2 County 1
We’re off to the club made famous by that milk advert tonight. What’s your favourite food or drink containing the white stuff?
I like that question, Des! Tell you what, I’ll give you one of each. An omelette (just a dash of milk beaten very lightly in with your two eggs, a tip from Delia Smith which has served me well down the years) accompanied by a lovely cup of tea.
I’m actually having my second cup of the morning (of tea, not omelette mixture) as we speak, while considering my prediction for tonight. Quite frankly it’s looking like anyone who turns up with a pair of boots is in danger of getting a game for this one, and with Accrington’s approach to the competition a further unknown, it’s anyone’s guess. I’ll go 2-1 to the opposition, entirely on the basis that I went for that last time which led to County getting something at Mansfield. I was only one goal out, so I’m hoping I’m not too wrong once again, maybe just slightly off the correct answer, a little like this guy…
Jonathan, aka Geordie Hatter, hosts The County Away Day Show on selected Saturday mornings during the season, when the Hatters are on the road (the next one’s Crawley). All episodes can be found at the-geordie-hatter.mixlr.com.
Ian Brown, All Things Stockport County
Accrington 0 County 3
Is there anyone in particular you’d like to see get 90 minutes tonight?
The standout player needing game time for me is Tanto.
Kyle Wootton is playing so marvellously well game after game that it is entirely understandable that Dave Challinor should keep him in the team, notionally but not necessarily at Tanto’s expense.
But I would welcome the chance of rekindling some of the pleasure I experienced at seeing Tanto combining so brilliantly with Louie Barry last season. They really looked an awesome pairing up front for us and tonight should be an opportunity for us to stretch Tanto’s legs whilst adding minutes to his game time, as we’ll no doubt need to call on him soon.
If Challinor plays the deadly duo from the start, expect my match forecast to be a goal or two light!
I’d love to see Jack Stretton start and get close to finishing a game. A starting place is probably unlikely but a substitute appearance may be doable. Jack’s so unlucky and in need of a morale booster.
Then there’s Lewis Fiorini who I guess is injured but it would be nice to add to the glimpse I got of him at Oldham in pre-season.
Generally speaking though, I remain as happy as most County supporters with the team DC is sending out just now, so we leave the man to manage don’t we!
Ian follows County home and away, producing detailed match reports every week, along with lots of other great content. Head over to hedgegrower.blogspot.com.

It was absolutely pissing it down when County made the short trip to Accrington last season, but that didn’t stop Harry Bruckshaw enjoying himself in the away end.

Last visit: Our last trip to Accy was also in September, 12 months ago. Let’s hope for the same result tonight, but not the same weather, as County fans were absolutely drenched in the Lancashire rain a year ago. At least we had three points to celebrate, as goals from Tanto, Collar and Barry put Dave Challinor’s men well in control before the home side scored a late consolation.
