NEXT AWAY GAME: Bolton Wanderers – Today, 12.30pm
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Bolton supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Saturday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
With Sky switching County’s kick-off to 12.30pm yet again, it’s an early start for us this morning. Just a quick one today, with Jonathan Baker joining us, but we’ll have loads of Bolton stuff to get your teeth into over the next few days. There’s a couple of good pieces on the Trotters below if you’ve not read those before.
Today’s edition is sponsored by DT Plastering Services and Damp Proofing Specialists. A big thank you to David.
Thanks also to Luke and Hannah at LBL Roofing & Building Ltd who sponsor our Bolton Wanderers content on the website.

Des Junior
5,110 County fans in the away end the last time we travelled to Bolton
Des Junior loves writing about County. But he can never be arsed doing match previews. They’re a bit dull, aren’t they? Will Collar’s out for a month with diarrhoea… blah blah blah…tomorrow’s referee has handed out more cards than Moonpig…blah blah blah…County haven’t won at Birmingham for a thousand years.
Fortunately, he has a number of fellow County content creators to call upon. Here’s their thoughts, general chit-chat and score predictions, with County making the short trip to a ground they’ve never lost at. If we can hold on to that statistic, we’ll remain above Bolton in the table this afternoon.

Bolton 2 County 1
Apart from “Bolton Get Battered” obviously, what’s your favourite Bolton-flavoured band or song?
With honourable mention to Pete Shelley's Buzzcocks who of course we all adore beyond reason, I'm going for Breightmet's finest, Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy.
Within a stellar and still continuing discography, the wool-hatted songsmith's standout three-minute creation for me remains 2002's “Something to Talk About”. Heading the soundtrack to that year's box-office-busting cinematic feature About a Boy the track retains the bounce, innocence and freshness that served as a perfect story-cementing backdrop to the screen-headlining charisma force of the film's headliner, one Hugh Grant.
I'm quite, quite taken by its chugalong and seemingly effortless piano-strewn effervescence. There’s a light but unmistakable genius at work here and a charm that will endure.
As for today, it’s hard to see past Bolton’s form since the managerial change and I don't see us coming into the game with the momentum needed for the occasion. Hope I am very wrong!
Today’s other predictions
County Supporters Co-operative: Bolton 2 County 2
Hatters Matters: Bolton 1 County 2
SK3 TV: Bolton 2 County 1

Random snippets from old County programmes
#20 - County v Crewe, 12 September 1998
6,538 against Norwich. 7,739 against Palace. 6,199 against Grimsby. One County fan wasn’t happy with our home attendances at the start of the 1998-99 season, and wrote in to Gladys - the club’s agony aunt - to vent his frustration!
Dear Gladys,
Have I missed something? Has there been a major epidemic? Where have all the people of Stockport gone?
Our crowds this season have been disgusting and the non attenders should be ashamed of themselves. After all, the kids prices have come down and we’ve not had a bad start on the pitch.
I suggest that all County fans, myself included, start to try and bring an extra person with them. If we’re not careful, Bury will get more fans than us. I can’t believe it!
