Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Northampton supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Wednesday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
I’m still in Northampton this morning, having enjoyed an extremely relaxing and comfortable night at Upton Country Park Guest House, just round the corner from Sixfields. If you don’t believe me, there I am!
I’ll be catching my train home in an hour or so, but before I do, let me share with you all 26 photos from yesterday (not including that disturbing one above). Reaction to our 1-1 draw will be on The Scarf My Father Wore tomorrow.
Today’s edition is sponsored by The Flower House. A big thank you to Zoe, who’s already started taking orders for Mother’s Day with a beautiful range of baskets and bouquets from £30. Don’t pick up a cheap bunch of flowers from one of the big conglomerates like Tesco or Waitrose this year, treat your mum to something special and support a fantastic local business (Zoe’s based in Marple) at the same time.
Thanks also to Hawk Drainage & Groundworks who sponsor our Northampton Town content on the website.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Total distance so far: 216.74 miles
Total steps so far: 353,516
Total raised so far: £2,270
Total completed streets so far: 474 (Click here for the full list, which includes reports and photos from every day of the walk.)
Further information on the walk can be found by clicking here.

I’m launching my first ever ‘Desmond’s Comedy Club’ night at the Fingerpost at the end of this month. (A handful of tickets remaining for anyone interested.) Who’s your favourite comedian of all time?
Lee Evans has me crying with laughter every time I watch him, even when I've seen it so many times before.

Photo of the day
Sixfields, Northampton (the pub, not the ground)
Popped in for an orange juice this morning. Thought I’d snap one last bit of Cobblers content before heading back north.

#10 - County v Notts County, 17 August 2002
Carlton Palmer wasn’t happy with County’s 1-0 defeat at Colchester on the opening day of the 2002-03 season.
Can I begin by thanking all of you who turned up on Tuesday night. It was great for the players to start with a good crowd and it made a real difference.
Tuesday’s game came after a disappointing start at Colchester. Layer Road is always a difficult place to go but that does not excuse our performance. We didn’t start the game in the first half and although we defended well it was simply not good enough. We weren’t closing people down and couldn’t pass the ball.
I’m sure there was an element of opening day nerves but at least we improved after the break. In the second 45 we looked comfortable even though Colchester had a few chances on the break. Even with ten men we were creating chances but at the end of the day you can’t afford to waste 45 minutes as we did in the first half.
There were a few choice words after the match but we mustn’t forget that this was our first game and we will learn from it but it will take time.
