Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Tranmere supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Thursday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
Today we’re joined by Tranmere fan Ethan Hoijord - co-host of The Mere or Far Podcast and editor of his own website EthanHoijord.com - for a chat about Connor Jennings, and lots of other Rovers stuff as well.
Thursday’s edition is sponsored by Eleven Accounts Services and Riks Fencing & Landscaping. A big thank you to both Louise and Rik.
Louise works with lots of different clients, from freelancers who don't need the complete package, to limited companies who want to hand everything across. Feel free to give her a call on 0161 501 0011 or email office@elevenaccounts.com to see how she can help your business.
Rik’s offering The Scarf My Father Wore readers a 10% discount, which might come in very handy with the weather we’ve been having recently. Further details below.

Connor Jennings scored again on Tuesday night. How’s he been getting on this season?
Connor Jennings has been exceptional for Tranmere this season. There were some questions, when he was signed, about how good he would be now. However, he has comfortably been our best permanent forward this season, with the most goal involvements. He has been looking tired though, so will probably need a rest soon. Will that come against County on Saturday? I doubt it.
Connor’s goal against Morecambe on Tuesday put you 2-0 up after just 10 minutes. But you went on to lose 3-2. What happened?
Well, when we went 2-0 up we decided to just relax. The midfield had an off night, resembling a disappearing act, the defence just couldn’t defend, and the attack spurned half decent opportunities. If Robbie Apter had played through Harvey Saunders, he would’ve scored and we most probably would’ve won. However, he didn’t, we invited pressure and Morecambe’s quality shone.
Have Tranmere fans taken to Nigel Adkins?
At the moment, he’s frustrating me. Four defeats in the last six games obviously isn’t great. His substitutions aren’t the best but I think the quality of players he has in his squad doesn’t exactly help!
You don’t look like you’re going down, or making a late push for the play-offs. Is this season already about building for next year?
This season was about building for next season before it even started! It's been a joke so far. We all knew that Ian Dawes wasn't the right man for the job but Nigel Adkins has saved us, by steering us away from relegation, and it'll be interesting to see what we can do with another summer with him at the club, as he was our director of football for last summer's recruitment which didn't entirely go to plan.
We’ve had Pancake Day this week. Who’s the biggest tosser ever to be associated with Tranmere?
Paul Mullin, maybe! This whole act now he’s at Wrexham is unbearable. He didn’t say anything whilst he was at Tranmere; now he’s the main man he’s the biggest ‘Scouser’ going and thinks everything is all about him. Didn’t he even bring a book out? Do me a favour.
There’s a load of us on the train on Saturday. Which station’s the best one to get off at – Birkenhead Central or Rock Ferry?
Both are a bit of a walk. The train links around the stadium are something we could probably do with improving. I'd say Rock Ferry is the best one to get off at.
And how about a pint?
There’s a lot around the ground, including a fan park (which is a tent) and The Halfway House. Anywhere you want a drink, you can. I don’t think there’s any no-go zones!
There was a video last month of Tranmere fans steaming into the MK Dons lot as they came out of the ground. Is a trip to Prenton Park a bit like Awaydays again?
Not quite as vicious as that I don’t think! I think all is well. It obviously kicked off after the game but that was started by MK Dons players in the dugout.
What’s your thoughts on Stockport County?
I do quite like County, a good club with a good story. My first away day that I can remember was the final day of the 2009-10 season when we won 3-0 at your place to stay up. I was only seven! There's always a good atmosphere at Edgeley Park, especially in the stand behind the goal, and Dave Challinor is a Tranmere legend. So, when you're crowned League Two champions, I'll be quite happy.
What’s your prediction for Saturday’s game?
A couple of months back I really feared another relegation back to the National League. I don't particularly fear that now. However, our form has certainly fell off. Our defeat to Morecambe on Tuesday night was our fourth in six matches. So, against top of the league County, I can't see past another defeat unfortunately. A point would be great, we just need to stop the rot.
Switch your business finance records over to the cloud
County fans use cloud computing on a daily basis. They post photos of pies and selfies with Paddy Madden to Facebook. They pay for coach travel via online banking. They stream TV and film from apps like iPlayer and Netflix on long journeys home from Crawley and Colchester. If you’re a County fan who runs a business, why aren’t you using the cloud for your accounts as well?
Louise from Eleven Accounts Services always advises her clients to switch their business finance records over to the cloud, as it allows for flexibility, it provides you with financial information in real time, and it also tightens security.
Visit elevenaccounts.com for further details.
Have your fences blown over? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered
It’s a little bit wet and windy at the moment isn’t it? Weather that might even send your fence crashing to the ground. If that happens, be sure to get in touch with Riks Fencing & Landscaping.
The business offers a fantastic range of composite decking and fencing. Unlike wooden fencing and decking which needs to be maintained, stained and sealed regularly, composite decking and fencing is made from a composite of recycled plastics and real wood fibres that is very low maintenance and resistant to stains, mould, mildew, cracking, splitting and warping.

Photo of the day
Mercian Way, Edgeley
A huge “The Scarf My Father Wore” mural is starting to go up on Edgeley. That’s not a bad free advert for the website, is it! Jack Stretton’s even helping to paint it. I feel like I owe him a pint or two next time I see him.
