Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Tranmere supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Thursday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
Tranmere won the game on Tuesday night. County won the group. And the 1,200 crowd won pneumonia. Following a bitterly cold evening at Edgeley Park there’s some words from Hannah Brown (celebrating her birthday today!) and some photos from myself.
Today’s edition is sponsored by Rub A Dubz Detailing. A big thank you to Grant.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.

✍️ Tuesday’s match in one word
Bumfuzzling. Which is an actual word, before you ask, and I’m determined to make it a thing.
🤔 Pre-match thoughts
Ooh what a lovely opportunity to give some fringe players a run-out and build their confidence in a dead rubber game. What could go wrong?
🧐 Post-match thoughts
Well, that went wrong. I’m still bumfuzzled to be honest. At least it didn’t matter, but it won’t have done any good for anyone’s confidence. Yes, eleven changes from Saturday’s team, but still, they had an opportunity to be outstanding and make a case for a starting position.
🔵 Verdict on County
It made tackling FanHub on Saturday an easier prospect, which is a small win given my Greggs fund is running low. The crowd was pretty much silent throughout – just a very weird atmosphere and won’t have helped, but we didn’t play well. Fully expect that’s due to the line-up changes and a group of players who haven’t played together in a match situation before so they struggled to find their flow.
🎩 Top Hatter
Odin or Tayo. Both got stuck in, and it’s really nice to see Odin having some good games – I was so happy for him on Saturday.
⚪️ Top Rover
I really liked Taylor – he’s young (20 in December) and has only played a couple of games for Tranmere, but he was tenacious and just kept bouncing back. One to watch. And can we also take a moment to appreciate THAT second half save from their 43-year-old goalkeeper?
👂 Atmosphere
I was sat next to the away bench so they kept me more entertained than the home fans to be honest. It was bloody cold though. I spent a lot of the second half online shopping for winter football going essentials.
🙏 Hopes for the rest of the season
I really don’t think it affects anything. Despite it looking dicey at times we finished top of the group and the BDSM trophy is good for prize money, so all good.
😀 Best part of the day
I finally bought Gold Digestives and comfort ate them in front of Lioness (highly recommend) when I got home. Also Josh Davison’s very intricate hairstyle, which meant I had to get up at 7am yesterday morning to do it in Charlotte’s.
😡 Worst part of the day
Apparently I didn’t order my lamb wrap at Leve Shawarma (despite him asking me what I wanted on my lamb wrap) and didn’t realise I hadn’t paid for it, and sat and waited patiently (because nice) until 6.45pm when I looked at the receipt. Fairly sure we would have won if that hadn’t happened.
The British Library receives a copy of every single book published in the UK. In the same fashion, Des Junior believes a detailed record of every County game should be preserved for the history books. So here’s the full story of our 2-0 defeat at home to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday 12 November, as told from his County-related WhatsApp groups…
7.18pm: Why the fuck are the stewards in the Cheadle End stood facing the empty seats?!
7.19pm: Because they’re stewards…
7.22pm: According to Sky, Dennis has come back to haunt his old side. Wouldn't go that far…
7.23pm: Nobody really staking their claim for a place here.
7.25pm: Feel bad for Tanto. Gets absolutely no service and that makes himself look shit, and when he does get service it’s in the air above his head with his back to goal.
8.44pm: Tranmere’s keeper is 43 and we’ve barely tested him.

#47 – Gordon Greer, Brighton
Gordon Greer made five appearances for County on loan from Blackburn in April 2003, scoring on his debut in our 4-1 win at Wycombe. Went on to play for Kilmarnock, Doncaster and Swindon, and then Brighton, where he captained the side to the League One title in 2010-11.
