✍️ Saturday’s match in one word
Hugh: Entertaining.
Hannah: Frustrating.
🤔 Pre-match thoughts
Hugh: Very wary of a County side near the top of the table, playing well with some outstanding players and one of the best managers in the league. It was always going to be a tough afternoon but I was hoping we could play our normal game and win it.
Hannah: Easy to say now but I predicted a 1-1 draw (I do have receipts for any doubters). After the late season draw earlier this year I didn’t expect much, and we’ve only beaten Crawley once in the last couple of seasons, and had one loss and one draw from our last two visits there. It’s easy to underestimate Crawley but they know how to beat Corey, and Scott Lindsey should never ever be underestimated.
🧐 Post-match thoughts
Hugh: Great game which could have gone either way. We controlled the game well but County had the better chances. It was very entertaining and both sides produced strong performances.
Hannah: It felt like a change from the previous few games in that we didn’t see the same impact from the subs, and a couple of players who have been performing very well looked slightly off the pace. They were very strong in midfield and frequent intercepts stopped us playing it forward too much. The ref was bad for both sides but felt like he gave us less.
🔴 Verdict on Crawley
Hugh: Crawley played very well and controlled most of the game. Our big problem is scoring goals at the moment and although we managed the game well we didn't create enough chances. At the back we were outstanding. Wootton hardly had a chance of note and we smothered most of the County chances with our keeper only making one save of note. We have speed and pace throughout the team and the midfield especially is mobile and fast.
Hannah: Their midfield was very strong and made us look average, which is a massive compliment given how we’ve looked recently. They just seemed to lack the ability to carry that through to the final third, and in common with their loss to Barnsley, they had the majority of possession but couldn’t score.
🔵 Verdict on County
Hugh: We know County from last season and they seemed to have managed the step up very well. They looked good moving forward. Fast dangerous players up front, especially Adaramola and Louie Barry (of course). The wing-backs were very flexible – started with one playing more forward and one playing slightly further back which will unbalance opponents. Tidy at the back and fast and direct up front. The midfield lacked mobility and pace, though, and were regularly caught out and too easily dispossessed by the Crawley midfield. The subs made very little difference and if anything disrupted County’s rhythm and they seemed on the back foot from then on. I think they will finish in the top half and with some luck reach the play-offs.
Hannah: As above really. You’d think I’d know the order of these questions by now… I do have a theory that we’re playing better against established League One clubs though, so dropping a few points to Mansfield and Crawley doesn’t really matter in the scale of things, but please god, not Wrexham. I think they were very good at shutting us down and had done their research – Barry was man-marked, and Fevs wasn’t given any space when he came on, but for a football club that is very stats oriented that’s no surprise.
👹 Top Red Devil
Hugh: Panutche Camará, our non-stop, high energy midfielder.
Hannah: Panutche Camará for me. Fans were delighted to have him back – he was one of their best signings of the summer – and the quality showed.
🎩 Top Hatter
Hugh: Louie Barry (of course).
Hannah: I thought Adaramola was brilliant and made a massive impact on his first appearance since Blackburn (the first one, not the bad one) and that friendly tackle. Camps stood out too – he’s been great so far this season. Credit to Corey too on his first return to his former club. Having to face a penalty with home fans behind him required some balls.
👂 Atmosphere
Hugh: It was a good atmosphere but not great. The game was finely balanced for the most part and this led to a more muted response from both sets of supporters. Very good County following and it’s always good to see the noise and colour brought by opposition fans.
Hannah: Away terraces always make for a nice atmosphere and there were more County fans than I expected. A bit subdued after their equaliser but in good spirits nonetheless.
🙏 Hopes for the rest of the season
Hugh: Survival is the only game in town; anything else is a bonus. Some fans predicted we’ll finish around 16th, which would be very acceptable. I suspect Scott Lindsey has different ambitions, though, and would like to see us finish higher.
Hannah: Well I’m pleased to report that I’ve located my lucky underwear set this morning (last seen after Bristol, first worn for Cambridge) so that’s encouraging. Lucky knickers aside, after five games last season we were 19th in the league with four points. We’re going to be fine.
😀 Best part of the day
Hugh: The ability to mingle before the game and chat with the County fans. It’s always very telling and opposition fans always seem to play down their team's chances. All the Crawley fans were delighted to see Corey back. He was a big fans' favourite and I’m glad the fans gave him a great reception. As part of the Wembley winning team he will always be a Crawley legend.
Hannah: Is the wrong answer getting home?! Ooh, I got an Oasis ticket. No seriously, Barry’s goal was the highlight, and seeing players back from injury start to dribble in (pun intended, sorry).
😡 Worst part of the day
Hugh: Conceding the goal of course!
Hannah: The AMAZING chip van from last season wasn’t there any more. I compromised with the chicken van, got really excited about the offer of honey mustard sauce, and then realised that translated as honey mustard salad dressing, which should never be served as an accompaniment to anything other then salad. Horrific. As was the M25. My ten hours of driving was not a highlight. Oh god, and Starbucks forgetting to put actual coffee in my ‘keep me awake for the last two hours’ pumpkin spice latte. I do not recommend hot milk with pumpkin sauce, which is what I got.
The British Library receives a copy of every single book published in the UK. In the same fashion, Des Junior believes a detailed record of every County game should be preserved for the history books. So here’s the full story of our 1-1 draw at Crawley Town on Saturday 14 September, as told from his County-related WhatsApp groups…
3.06pm: Get in! Great goal. Brilliant from Collar too.
4.26pm. Penalty. Stupid, clumsy foul.
4.54pm: I think Challinor will be pissed off at that.
4.56pm: Win at home and draw away will do just fine for me.
4.57pm: Yeah, but take your wins when they're there for the taking. Bit disappointed.
11.21pm: God there’s some right specimens in Manchester on a Saturday night. Some bloke was yelling “I need the toilet” in the train station and proceeded to unzip his jeans and try to piss on the floor.
11.36pm: A County fan threw up in the Spoons beer garden at the services at about 11.30 this morning, absolutely fucked.
11.37pm: Yuck.
What is probate and when is it required?
Probate is the process of dealing with somebody’s estate when they die.
A Grant of Probate is obtained where a person held a will and a Grant of Letters of Administration is the equivalent if the person did not have a will.
Obtaining probate proves that the will is valid and confirms who has the authority to deal with the estate.
The executor named in the will or the next of kin under the rules of intestacy if there is no will are the people entitled to obtain the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration. They are also the people responsible for dealing with the estate.
A Grant of Probate is usually required when a person owns property, bank accounts, investments or other assets in their sole name. The executor or next of kin under the intestacy rules will require a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration before they can sell or transfer property, close the bank accounts or investments and obtain the funds or to deal with transfer of any assets of the estate.
If the person had a will, the will explains how the estate is to be distributed and the executors will gather all of the funds and distribute in accordance with the will. If the deceased did not hold a will, the estate will be distributed in accordance with the rules of intestacy.
