THE SCARF MY FATHER WORE 2025-26 CALENDAR: Having been to all 56 County games this season, I’ve taken thousands of photos. I’ve put together calendars for next season, featuring some of my favourite photos from the last year, plus some other County bits and bobs. £10 each. Get in touch if you’d like one.
Dear County fans, Stopfordians, Peterborough supporters, and anyone else from The Football Family joining us today, a very warm welcome to your Saturday edition of The Scarf My Father Wore.
How are you spending your Saturday night? You might be treating your partner to dinner at a posh restaurant. Or you might be dining at home, tucking into one of those posh Charlie Bigham’s ready meals that cost as much as a second-hand Fiat Punto. If you haven’t got anything posh to enjoy tonight, you do now. Charlie McLellan from Up The Poshcast reflects on Peterborough’s season for us, from losing at Lincoln to winning at Wembley.
As you can see from the photos above, I was at a festive Edgeley Park in December as County beat Peterborough in their final game before Christmas. I was also at London Road on Good Friday, where I caught a glimpse of the Easter Bunny in the away end! In fact, for the first time in my life, I’ve been to every single County game this season – all 56 of them! I’ve written a book about my adventures this season. If you’d like to support the publication by having your name printed in the book (along with a signed copy and a ticket to the book launch) drop me an email.
Today’s edition is sponsored by Mark Diamond and Andrew Smirthwaite from The Agency UK. A big thank you to both!
Thanks also to Tony from TH Private Hire who sponsors our Peterborough United content on the website.
Finally, I’m currently walking every street in Stockport to raise money for mental health charity Mentell. If you’d like to make a donation to help me reach my target, please click here.
Total distance so far: 253.75 miles
Total steps so far: 418,084
Total raised so far: £2,312
Total completed streets so far: 474 (Click here for the full list, which includes reports and photos from every day of the walk.)

Best moment of 2024-25?
Beating Birmingham 2-0 to win the Vertu Trophy at Wembley. An absolutely incredible day – one of the best ever.
Worst moment of 2024-25?
Losing 5-1 away to Lincoln was absolutely painful. The 4-0 ‘Nene derby’ loss at home to Northampton probably takes it though, a horrific day to be a Posh fan.
Funniest moment of 2024-25?
My mate Tobber was informed that our friend group would be painting ourselves blue and going to the final game of the season at Rotherham as Smurfs. Tobber, unquestioning as ever, went completely all out on the costume (it was quite impressive actually), only to realise that he’d been absolutely played. He was the only Smurf that turned up to Peterborough station that day. Hilarious.
The Birmingham Boasters and the Wrexham Wazzocks seem to have annoyed a lot of fans in League One this season. Which one are you most glad to see the back of?
I actually liked both clubs. Both were generally gracious throughout the season, and treated the league with a lot of respect in my opinion. I’m glad that Birmingham are gone as it feels like the title race might actually be exciting next season. I don’t really want to go to the Racecourse ever again – it’s not very nice – therefore I’m glad that Wrexham got promoted too. However, both clubs have some really great people and deserve their success.
Reform have been making a lot of noise recently. Based on this season, what’s in most need of reform at Peterborough, on or off the pitch?
The PA system is pretty bad. It’s between that and the entire squad and probably most of the coaching staff too. Tough decision to make.
Four Four Two had you down to finish 5th, EFL pundit Gabriel Sutton thought you’d finish 13th, while the Opta supercomputer predicted you’d be 4th. You finished 18th. Discuss.
Who doesn’t love human victories over technology? Have that Opta! That will teach you for thinking that selling all of your best players and replacing them with inexperienced crap gets you into the play-offs!

County 2 Peterborough 1 in December. Peterborough 1 County 1 in April. Thoughts?
Both quite boring to be honest. I thought we were probably the better side at our place and deserved to win. The away game was quite fun, but so horrifically devoid of quality – a fairer result would have been a 0-0 draw.
Best and worst away days of 2024-25?
Best: Cambridge away in the Cambridgeshire derby. We won 1-0 with a late free-kick right in front of the away end sparking absolute scenes. Condemning those lot to relegation was great fun!
Worst: The 5-1 defeat at Lincoln was very depressing. Burton away was also horrific – we went 2-0 down early before drawing 2-2, which was still a bad result as Burton were torrid at the time). The worst part was the journey home, where our train was stopped about half an hour from Peterborough, and we were told we would not be moving for hours and that we would probably be sent back to Leicester (punishment enough having to go there, let alone on New Year’s Day at 8pm). In the end, a mate’s wife came to pick us up, but it was looking like a terrible evening for a while.
Which Peterborough player is most deserving of his couple of weeks on the beach this summer?
Unpopular opinion: Oscar Wallin. He’s played a 70-game season as he joined us in the summer from the Swedish second division which starts in February I think, and he came straight in and made 41 appearances for us. This is made even more impressive by the fact that he had a hernia for the vast majority of this, and has only just had surgery to sort it out. An unsung hero definitely, even if he has been dodgy at times.
Never mind Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+, a TV production company have just made Peterborough United: The Story of 2024-25. Which channel would it be most suited for?
Comedy Central – slotted between Impractical Jokers and that one Friends episode where Ross goes to get a spray tan but accidentally uses the tanning machine wrong.
And finally, apologies for darkening the mood, but you’ve only got 30 seconds to live. Putin’s pressed the red button and we’re all about to die. You can have one last moment of pleasure, watching a single Peterborough goal from this season. What you sticking on?
Probably Harley Mills’ free-kick at Wembley. An academy graduate sticking it in the top corner to send us on our way to a trophy – what a moment!
➡️ Any Peterborough fans joining us today? As stated above, I’ve written a book having watched every County game home and away this season. There’s obviously two big chapters on Peterborough included (home and away). Also, as I celebrated my 40th birthday this season, I’ve written about my four decades as a County fan as well, which I’m hoping will be an enjoyable read for anyone who supports a lower league club. There’s memories of beating four Premier League clubs as County reached the Coca-Cola Cup semi-finals in 1996-97, the club’s rise from the National League North to the brink of the Championship over the last few years, and the tale of a trip to Blackpool 20 years ago when me and my mates had a run-in with armed police after a day on the ale…

The Agency UK
Today is a new day for estate agency. Until now, traditional models and online methods for selling homes have based their businesses on volume.
The Agency UK believes that estate agency can be done better with the client at the heart of the process, rather than a number on a balance sheet. Most importantly, they believe each home move is special and deserves an experience to match. Working with only a handful of clients selling a home in each local area allows them to dedicate more time to you and your potential buyers.
Covering Reddish, Burnage, Levenshulme and Didsbury, Mark Diamond has helped people move locally since 2011. Offering a bespoke approach for every home, Mark provides personal service and expert advice. Thinking of selling? Book your in-home valuation with Mark today. Call 07799 907164 or email mark.diamond@theagencyuk.com.
For a personal, premium, and bespoke estate agency service in The Heatons, get in touch with Andrew Smirthwaite, who’s been helping people move locally since 2009. If you are considering selling your home, reach out to Andrew for a personal in-home valuation. Call 07835 976554 or email andrew.smirthwaite@theagencyuk.com.
